IICRC IICRC, a name you can trust

You've probably heard of the IICRC more than once, but how much do you really know about these five letters and their very important role for our industry? Here's a quick look at the interesting story behind the IICRC.

Over 40 years of experience

The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification was founded in 1972 in California by Ed York. At the time, it was known as the International Institute of Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning Inc. (IICUC), and it dealt exclusively in the carpet-cleaning field. Ed York put together training programs for his technicians, who were always eager to build up their expertise. Eventually, with so much demand for this training, Ed sought accreditation for his institution from the California government. The IICUC would come to be recognized for its comprehensive approach and newly developed methods, becoming a leader in standards for the entire cleaning industry.

Standards and certifications

Today, the IICRC's mission is to develop standards and create comprehensive certifications for the inspection, cleaning, restoration and installation industries. As an independent organization, the IICRC establishes and promotes high technical and ethics standards for the industry. IICRC certification is available to individuals and businesses alike.

A constantly changing organization

With 53,000 certified technicians, the IICRC continually updates its programs to reflect the latest industry trends and requirements, from new techniques and technology to shifting service realities.  The IICRC ensures that its certifications keep pace with the real needs of contractors and customers.

The value of IICRC certification

IICRC-certified technicians gain immediate credibility in their field. Their knowledge and know-how are seen as an advantage by employers. Their names are also added to the huge searchable directory of certified professionals on the IICRC website.

Businesses that decide to seek certification get a real competitive advantage with their customers and insurers. These companies can also use the IICRC name and logo in their communications, reinforcing their promise of high-quality service. Some organizations and associations also only hire certified firms. IICRC certification provides assurance that companies will apply the highest industry standards and that you can be confident in the quality of their work.
